Doncaster Sheffield Airport

Doncaster Sheffield Airport was arguably Yorkshire’s most accessible airport making it the perfect base for Yorkshire Aero Club. Its proximity to the M18 / A1(M) motorway network, places it within a 45 minute drive from major cities such as Leeds, York and Sheffield. The history of the airport dates back to 1915 when it was founded as Finningley Airfield, however it is best known for being RAF Finningley, the home of the Vulcan Bomber.

Since closure of the airport in November 2022, all practical training has moved to Sandtoft Airfield leaving our base at Doncaster Sheffield for ground school to help pilots cover learning on the ground.

In addition to the well placed road links, our Doncaster Sheffield office is also easily accessible by public transport. The 57c bus route operated by First, gives a regular link to Doncaster Interchange. A copy of the timetable can be found here.

For those travelling from Sheffield, the X6 bus service offers an hourly direct service from Sheffield Interchange. Tickets cost £6 return.
